Less than a week after the Nintendo Switch 2 was released, the company has announced that it has already sold 3.5 million units. Considering this was accomplished in just four days, that easily makes it Nintendo’s fastest-selling console ever.
According to reports, the original Nintendo Switch – which launched in 2017, five years after the Wii U – couldn’t even swing that in its first month, with sales at 2.5 million units for that console. As it stands, Nintendo expects the Switch 2 to hit 15 million units by March 2026.
As is standard, the Nintendo Switch 2 came with one core launch title: Mario Kart World, the latest installment in the Mario Kart franchise that allows for free roam and 24 online players at once. (Yes, it is complete chaos; yes, it’s worth it.) The bundle version runs $499.99, while the console itself is $449.99. Unfortunately, the console is light otherwise on launch titles, with another highly anticipated title, Donkey Kong Bananaza not set for release until July. Otherwise, you’re looking primarily at remasters and updated versions, including those for the most recent Legend of Zelda games, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Not surprisingly, hype for the Nintendo Switch 2 meant pre-orders would be through the roof, making it difficult to get your hands on one. With the console still being fresh, many stores like Target and Walmart are still showing it being out of stock in certain locations, leaving many of us still unable to see what the Cow is capable of out on the track.
As for technical specs, the Nintendo Switch 2 offers a 7.9-inch wide color gamut LCD screen at 1920×1080 pixels with full HDR10 support. Internal storage is at 256 GB, with a game like Mario Kart World taking up around 10% of that. Compared to the original Switch, that’s a huge upgrade, as that only had upwards of 64GB of internal storage. You can see a full rundown of specs on Nintendo’s official website.
